Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter,  (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 baking powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Extra sugar or powdered sugar for rolling  ((if desired))

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the butter vanilla extract), almond extract, and egg to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder.
  • Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead it gently. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  • Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the dough.
  • Place the cut-out cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • If desired, lightly sprinkle the cookies with extra sugar or powdered sugar for added sweetness and decoration.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure that your butter is softened to room temperature before creaming it with the sugar. This helps create a smooth and creamy texture for the dough.
Chill the Dough if Necessary: If the dough becomes too soft or sticky while rolling it out, you can chill it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to firm it up. This makes it easier to handle and prevents the cookies from spreading too much while baking.
Cool Completely Before Decorating: Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before decorating them. Decorating warm cookies can cause the icing or frosting to melt and lose its shape.
