Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ribeye steak, trimmed and thinly sliced
  • ½ tsp Sea salt, or to taste
  • ½ tsp Black pepper, or to taste
  • 1 large sweet onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 Hoagie Rolls, sliced 3/4 through
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 garlic clove, pressed
  • 2-4 tbsp mayonnaise, or to taste (optional)

Instructions

  • Slice the hoagie rolls 3/4 of the way through and spread the softened butter mixed with pressed garlic onto the cut sides. Toast the buns until golden brown and set aside.
  • In a skillet, sauté the diced onions until caramelized, then transfer them to a bowl.
  • Increase the heat to high and add oil to the skillet. Spread the thinly sliced steak in an even layer, letting it brown for a couple of minutes undisturbed. Flip the steak, season with salt and pepper, and sauté until fully cooked. Stir in the caramelized onions and bell peppers.
  • Divide the steak mixture into 4 portions and top each with 2 slices of provolone cheese. Turn off the heat and allow the cheese to melt.
  • Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the toasted side of each roll. Place a roll over each portion of steak and use a spatula to transfer the cheesy beef mixture into the rolls.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the ultimate Philly Cheesesteak experience!

Notes

Pro Tip: For easier slicing of the ribeye steak, place it in the freezer for 30-40 minutes before slicing. This brief chilling period firms up the meat, making it easier to achieve thin, uniform slices.
Variation: Get creative with your Ultimate Philly Cheesesteak by adding your favorite toppings or ingredients. Try adding sautéed mushrooms, hot cherry peppers, or even swapping the provolone cheese for Cheez Whiz for a more traditional Philly-style twist. Customize it to your taste and enjoy your personalized version of this classic sandwich!
