Easy to Prepare
Simply put, making Super Soft Dinner Rolls can be broken into a four-part process: prepare the dough, shape the rolls, allow them to rise, and bake them. These Dinner Rolls can be on your table in no time.
Preparing the Dough:
With a stand mixer:
In the bowl of your stand mixer, combine milk, 1 Tbsp yeast, and sugar, and set aside until foamy for about 5 minutes. Then whisk in the remaining sugar, melted butter, and salt. Slowly add the flour 1/3 cup at a time. The dough should feel slightly sticky to the touch, but not so sticky that it sticks to clean and dry fingertips. If needed, add 1 to 2 Tbsp flour at a time.
Once all the flour is in, continue kneading with the dough hook attachment for about 2 minutes. Kneading is needed to release the gluten and make it softer. After kneading, you are going to oil a bowl and place your dough ball in it. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise for 2 hours or until doubled. Punch down the dough to release the air and shape it into rolls.
By hand:
Mix the dough ingredients in a large bowl using a firm spatula or wooden spoon. Once it comes together, knead with clean dry hands for 8-10 minutes.
To knead by hand, press on the dough with the heel of your hand, moving in a forward rolling motion. Rotate your dough ball and repeat several times. Prepare to work those arms!
After kneading, you are going to oil a bowl and place your dough ball in it. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise for 2 hours or until doubled. Punch down the dough to release the air and shape it into rolls.
Shaping Rolls:
You can shape this dough in many ways including cloverleaf rolls, twisted rolls, and knotted rolls. For these soft dinner rolls, we will stick to the basic round shape.
Remove the dough and separate it into 14-16 even pieces by using a bench cutter. To shape the dinner rolls, cup the dough between your fingers and thumb and roll the pieces into rounds over your other hand or on the countertop.
Bake Dinner Rolls
Bake your dinner rolls at 375˚F until golden brown (about 23-25 minutes). When the rolls come out of the oven, immediately brush them with melted butter and sprinkle them with coarse salt.
Keep the rolls warm
To keep warm, transfer your rolls to a serving dish or bowl and cover them with a kitchen towel. This will trap the heat.
Make Ahead of Time
After you have shaped your rolls. Cover the rolls tightly and refrigerate for up to about 16 hours. At least 3 hours before you need them the next day, remove the rolls from the refrigerator and allow them to rise on the counter for about 1-2 hours before baking.
Freeze
Before You Bake:
After you have shaped your rolls. freeze the rolls in a baking pan. Once frozen, place them in an airtight, freezer-friendly container. Let them thaw and rise for about 4-5 hours, then bake.
After You Bake
Allow them to cool completely and then place them in an airtight, freezer-friendly container. Thaw in at room temperature, then reheat in the microwave or oven.

Tips for Baking Success!
Hey there, baking enthusiasts! Ready to elevate your roll game and achieve ultimate fluffiness? Well, you’re in luck because I’ve got some tried-and-true tips to help you make the perfect Super Soft Dinner Rolls every time. Let’s dive in!
- Warm Milk, Happy Yeast: To kickstart the yeast activation party, make sure your milk is warmed to around 110°F. Too hot and you’ll kill the yeast, too cold and it won’t activate properly. Aim for that sweet spot to get your rolls rising like champs!
- Embrace the Stickiness: Don’t be afraid if the dough feels a bit sticky when you’re kneading. A slightly tacky texture is what you’re aiming for to achieve those irresistibly soft rolls. Just keep calm and keep kneading!
- Patience is Key: When it comes to rising, patience is your best friend. Give your dough plenty of time to double in size – about 2 hours for the first rise and another 30-60 minutes for the second rise. Trust me, it’ll be worth the wait!
- Size Matters: When shaping your rolls, aim for uniformity to ensure even baking. Whether you’re going for dinner roll-sized or slider-sized, consistency is key for that picture-perfect presentation.
- Brush with Love: Once your rolls are out of the oven and golden-brown perfection, don’t forget to give them a little extra love with a brush of melted butter. It adds that extra touch of flavor and keeps the rolls oh-so-soft.
And there you have it – five simple yet game-changing tips to help you achieve Super Soft Dinner Roll perfection! So, roll up your sleeves, preheat that oven, and get ready to impress your friends and family with your newfound roll-making skills. Happy baking!

Hi!! I so love these, There are AMAZING! I am looking forward to making this recipe ahead of time I would like to know if there are any storing tips? Can we freeze them for later or are they best used at the time.
You can freeze the dough Lydia, here’s how:
Prepare the dough as directed, let it rise, and then shape the rolls.
Freeze the rolls on a parchment lined baking sheet or in a baking pan spaced out so they aren’t touching.
Place them in a Ziploc freezer bag.
When you are ready to bake, let the rolls thaw and rise for about 3-4 hours at room temperature. The exact time will of course depend on how warm your home is.
Then simply bake as directed.
Love these rolls. So soft and delicious. Also, I used it to make pepperoni rolls. They were delicious. The sweetness of the bread pairs well with the spicy pepperoni.
DELICIOUS! Can you roll them out and let them rise overnight to bake off in the morning?
